Im doing search for a star tomorrow, and im worried im going too be asked to jump something we havent practiced!

Someone mentioned there being a 4ft brush fence last year?! Im take my very carefull (wimp) showjumper, so that could be fun.

I might have half a chance of jumping the fences if im allowed spurs, but i cannot see anything in the rules mentioning them?

Also should he have quarter marks for workers? If so how and what do they need too look like?!

Any last minute hints would be very very helpful!!

Thanks!

Max height for open workers is 1.15m, the brush would probably be a bullfinch so you brush through top (in theory!).
Spurs are correct turn out for workers so no problems on that score.
I have never yet come across a SJ horse that is spooky in workers so don't worry.
There will more than likely be a water tray, a stile and usually a flimsy double of hanging gates or something similar.
Remember to kick on and make the round look as fluid as possible.
Good Luck

I did a open workers class on my SJer. He jumped through fine, the bull finch fence, i have to say though, he flew over the whole thing! You will probably have quite tight turns, but you will be fine!

Just push on you want a round where the horse flows , one point though my first county worker was Windsor and I waited for a bell, felt a fool afterwards .no bell is used.

I had to jump a fake piece of barbed wire last year at a county wh class! I practiced by covering a pole in tin foil

And I have also jumped lots of garden benches as well, and the obligatory gate and also the usual water tray with ducks in

Last year I jumped a bullfinch, which I couldn't see over - and I'm 5f7

I will get a pic of it for you!

Just remember to have a forward going canter and do not showjump it!!

The spookiest fence I have come across in a WH class is an open dry ditch at Castlewellan show. It isn't huge (about 5') but always causes lots of problems year after year.

Only_me - I jumped a 'barbed wire' fence in a hunt derby a while back and horse sailed over it (hadn't practised beforehand). Maybe horses eyes see this type of fence differently - you would assume it would be scary but doesn't appear to be.

back - there is a big square straw bale in the middle of it

but that was at a championship show so i doubt you would have to jump that

and yes, my horse jumped the height of it

Thank you for the replies. That bullfinch looks scary!

He is quite spooky horse but very careful, so hopefully the course wont be too bad. I practiced a home made bullfinch today and he jumped over the top of it, first time aswell so fingers cross

I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks
