What do you have to do, is the turn out the same as showing hunters?

My friend asked me last night and I didn't have a clue

Is it showing with a bit of jumping? If so what comes first?

The jumping phase is first.. The judge then calls back in the horses they want to see shown... the tack is slightly different obv more jumping or working hunter saddles... bridles can be grackles etc. but what ever tack you jump in you then show in you can't change anything for the group and showing section (apart from removing jumping boots)

You do a clear round over rustic fences then all the clear rounds go back in, go round together in walk trot and canter then do an individual show in walk trot canter and gallop.

It should be judged on a horse most like a hunter so the jumping part will be judged on style as well as clearing the fences.

There should be between 8-12 jumping efforts. the height of the jumps varies hugely depending if you're at local level where they can be anything from 2' novice up to 3'6!

At county level, the novice would be 3'3", the open about 3'6-3'9".

It's usual for the judge to ride each horse after the initial go round - they're lined up in order, the judge rides them, then you take the saddle off and then trot them up in hand (walk away, trot back towards the judge). then tack back on, and ride out round the ring again once everyone is ready. Judge then pulls you in the final order.

Individual shows are more common for riding horses. hacks - or at local level when the class canm be of mixed heights- or the judge might be of an age where they no longer wish to ride!

At a small local show this is less likely to happen though, I would imagine this is more relevant at county level. So it depends what level you are planning on competing at.

The horse should be confident with jumping rustic fences such as stiles, skinnies, gates etc.
