I loved it, and if I could get my weight to stay the same I would go back to it as quick as lighting, I was on a yard of 14 horses in lambourn, I used to start work at 6, muck out 5 then ride 6 finish at 12 then hit the gym until 4 back on the yard, mucking out, brushing down and feed for 6 and then hit the pub, race day where the best, that's where I really got my money up by turning the horses out the best I could and 9 times out of 10 winning best turned out, the most I won was £200, and I only worked 5.5 days a weeks. I had the best boss in world, I had such a laugh there and it never felt like work to me, I also worked on a yard in Ireland, but only lasted 4 days as the training beat the hell out of a 2 year old colt because he wouldn't stand still when being clipped, like I said if I could go back to the yard in lambourn I would
Like a lot of jobs in the horseworld, you get out what you put in. If you are prepared to knuckle down and pull your weight and then some, keep your mouth shut and learn with your eyes and ears open you will love it and gain so, so much from it. This really does go for any equestrian job in my books!
I loved it (still there but maybe thinking my time is done!)
My job is not the average racing yard job now- Im part time and Its a little yard but I do also work a few days on a bigger yard- that one can be bitchy I just stay out of it and get on with all the gangs!
Its easier for me to do that as im PT and older and I don't live in.
I love the horses. I agree a thick skin certainly helps but id say its probably the best regulated horsey job in terms of your rights and pay.
