Hello,

I’m looking for help and advice please?

My Husband is hoping to get a GS and eventually start working trials. It’s been a long term dream and now due to changes with work and a house move, it seems that his dream is looking to become more of a reality.

We aren’t in any rush to buy a puppy, we are wanting to do our research and make sure that we can offer a good, forever home for the puppy. We’d ideally like to get to know the Breeder and for the Breeder to know us.

So my first question, is do you know of any breeders within a 100 mile radius of Reading.

Also, it’s my Husbands 40th birthday in January (the puppy when we eventually get one will be his present) and I’m hoping to put together a Puppy/working trials present together for him. So far I have:

Puppy training lead
Bumbag
Thermal Wellies
Dog bed
Dog crate
Whistle?
Good books? (I don’t know of any but was going to ask KC?)

Is there anything else he may need...well apart from a puppy ;-)

Any advice, tips etc is truly welcomed and appreciated. Also any books which he may enjoy reading either about the breed or working trials?

We are experienced dog owners and currently have a dog. We have also grown up with dogs inc GS and my Mum trainer to level B Obedience (although this was 25 or so years ago)

Thank you x

KC Working Trials or IPG (currently IPO and formerly known as Schutzhund lol)? Not as much help with the former.

I'll send you a PM with some pointers.

I'd go for a good training jacket/vest rather than a bum bag, it's one less visual to fade out and they have good deep pockets for all food/balls/frisbees etc!

If you need any further advice with pedigrees and health tests etc then please do PM me, happy to help.
