World's most feeble riding injury?

Idiotically attempting to mount from the ground yesterday, I bent my little finger sideways on the back of the saddle. Hurt a little, but I went for my ride and forgot it until I dismounted and took off my gloves. Little finger bent at a crazy angle...

This morning when I got up it hadn't straightened so I went to A&E. Felt an idiot sitting there with a bent little finger for two hours. It didn't even hurt much.

An Xray later, and it turns out to be an extensor tendon injury. I have to wear a ridiculous plastic splint for at least six weeks. My work involves personal care of disabled people and I can't see how I'll manage with my finger strapped up!

I'm tempted to take off the splint and live with a floppy finger. What a stupid, feeble injury to get!

Has it happened to anyone else?

Not as feeble as me... I got back on board after a year's break (also the first time in three years that I had ridden in a school - had just been hacking for a couple of years) and tried to do some of the things that used to come naturally, like using my inside leg to push the horse over into the corners of the school. Then a couple of hours later, walking across a carpark, my knee just pinged and I nearly fell over:eek::o It's been on and off for a whole week now - how feeble is that?:o

Hope your finger gets better soon:)

I was leading a horse to a new field once and he took off - rope somehow pulled one of my fingers and after 2 days of pain and swelling went to a&e. Couldn't see anything on xray so sent me on my way (I felt very stupid for wasting their time!)

Turns out finger was broken, no idea why they couldn't see it - swelling or break in a funny place maybe, but now have a bony growth in joint and arthritis in that finger (I'm 27!) so keep the splint on!

as above lol trying to load my darling and caught my finger in the rope - after a couple fo days where it was quite sore went to A&E and to da it was broken. i too had a silly plastic splint and couldnt bend my finger, therefore could not hold on to the crazy arab so took it off. Dont take the splint off it will make it worse!!

I was leading a horse from the field, she got abit excited and decided to bolt, the lead rope ripped straight across my hand (me not wearing gloves or anything:rolleyes:) Got some real nice rope burns. It hurt like hell for weeks.

Did that one a few weeks ago, same hand! No gloves, Mollie shied in the wind and I still have big red lines where the rope burns were. Goes lovely with the stupid splint!

My boy spooked at some barking dogs and fell in the road. I broke my little finger which was fine except when I tried to do my girth up in subsequent weeks. But what really, really hurt was the little hole in my hip where my car keys stabbed me! Not bad enough to go to doctors but I can still remember that pain... how feeble is that!

Not even on handling a horse or on board...

I was putting some new stirrup leathers on a saddle and it was very tight on the bars. I somehow managed to bend my thumb nail right back a long way down the thumb. Cue massive blood collection under the nail needing to be released (using a needle) and my thumb strapped up for over a week.

I felt stupid!

Came back from lovely hack on my sweaty cob mare and in a moment of sheer madness, decided to finish off with some little jumps in the school. Stupidly held the very end of a wooden pole and dropped it into metal cup only it wasn't quite long enough and fell, crushing my finger in the tiny gap between pole and cup. It was OK though (I thought) because I was wearing leather gloves. Hurt like hell. Pulled glove off and tip of finger fell apart in a Y-shape... oh the pain!!! 5 stitches and incapacitated for weeks.... fingertips have LOTS of nerve endings!!!! Still slightly numb, some 6 years later.... :(

I don't jump anymore!

I broke my ring finger on my left hand, no idea how it was that one, getting it caught in the end of the reins when the horse I was trotting up spooked and pulled the reins through my hand. It cracked across the joint by my nail, had to have it strapped up for a while, go back for a second appointment with an orthopaedic doctor and now when it's cold it still hurts! Really pathetic as I spent a couple of hours in A&E for it and it was tiny. I was pleased it was broken though as no-one believed me that it was!
