Evening All,

I have had a worm count done and has come back as

1300 e.p.g. strongyle eggs (high count)

I have bought the Equest Pramox wormer, will this get rid of the worm eggs?

Sorry, i don't know too much about wormer, never had to do it before.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Kelly

I had a worm count done on my new horse, 4 y.o 16.1 ID/Cob and it came back 700 e.p.g. I was told by my vet this was pretty high!
As I wanted a gentle, prolonged treatment so that the death of the migrating strongyl red worms did not cause massive damage to the gut wall, I dosed him with the 5 day Panacur Equine Guard followed by Equimax tabs (palatable). He perked up enormously after the first 6 days but was still shedding the most huge disgusting bot larvae for a further 9 days in his poos. (yeuk)
I have been advised to send in another specimen in 12 weeks. If I were you I would seek veterinary advice for the safest effective way to rid you horse of his worm burden.
Incidently my cob had an e.p.g of 0!

My new horse had just arrived from Southern Ireland and had been dosed with Panacur 10% in April! My vet said that this stuff was tantamount to useless as an effective wormer, so be careful whos advice you follow.

Def check with vet, Pramox is a combination wormer so is quite 'strong', as a first worming I personally would go for something specific to the worms that have come up, something maybe a bit gentler!

ditto the above really, I would have a chat with your vet as would want to know why it is so high so I think you probably need to discuss your regime with them. Is it a new or very young horse?

The moxidectin in pramox can be a bit harsh I think in horses with high burdens and I too would be more inclinded to take the panacur 5-day route. I would then do another egg count pretty soon to check its worked :)

agree with the others your vet or the worm count company should be telling you what exact wormer you need

Good luck!
