worm counts-advice please

I had worm counts done and one horse has a count of 150 for Strongyle type. All others are clear- nothing found. Do I now just worm the one pony or is it still too low to worry? I am so used to routinely worming them all at the same time but have been re-educated by HHO!!! LOL!!!The ill old boy was clear which was a relief.

I can ring the company tomorrow but thought someone here would know anyway!

It also seems odd that only one should have a positive count. I wondered whether I have not given her enough wormer. She is 12.2hh sec B, quite a fine one, so give her half a wormer (adequate for 300kg I think)

I am quite excited that I have moved into the 21st Century but just need some guidance lol!!
 
It's quite normal for some to carry more than others, my friend has a stud and says that the ones that were 'religiously' wormed always have a higher count than those who weren't. Don't know why though! Must have something to do with the worms in their system never getting resistant to the drugs.
 
Some horses do show when the rest don't. Chancer did until recently, as I understand it young horses do carry more worms. This year he is 4 and the last two counts have been clear.

150 is a high low count, and I would personally worm anything with more than 150. As the others are clear, they don't require anything doing.

I now worm with equest at the end of December, worm count in April and if necessary then worm. I worm count again early September so I know if I need just a tape or a combi wormer for when I worm in October for tape.

I poo pick nearly every day and it is only my two on the field so this routine works for me.

I did ask my vet about blood test for tape, and his reply was not to waste my money as mine don't colic, keep weight on so once a year worming for tape was enough. He also said why stick a needle in them every year when I can just use a wormer.
 
150 ISNT a high count, Ive known counts of 600/800 and more in horses who were supposed to have ben religiously wormed.

All horses carry some burden so I would say its down to how YOU feel about the result as to whether you worm now or wait. Personally I would worm but I prefer to keep the counts to less than 50epg.
 
Without looking it up, I think that below 200 is below the 'needs worming' count. I'm like Spaniel and like <50 epg although I would worm anything with 100 or more.
 
So I just worm the one then. Dont really want them to escalate really. It will be interesting to see what happens next time.
 
Personally i would worm them all ASAP then do a worm count next time and see what the results are... worms can ley dormant in the horses therefore now show on a reading but can still be doing damage i would worm to be safe ...good luck
