On my previous yard they did worm counts as part of the livery and they just potted them up for us and the vets took them every 3months.
Now I'm a bit more out in the sticks with my girly and having to organise this myself (and like to make mountains out out of molehills) and wondered what you guys all do? And at what cost? Not that it matters just to get get an idea :)

I do but its because I have a care plan that I pay monthly for, covers vac's, teeth, worm count and a wormer! never done a worm count before hand! not sure im convinced by them either!

I use Westgate, really good reliable and quick service and also cheaper than my vets. They will advise on results too.

This. They email your results to you as soon as they have them, then send you a hard copy with your next lot of pots too.

Ooooo, that's sounding very good!! Reliable then! Do they send you pots to start with? Lol. I cant send it in a Tesco bag so I'm guessing so?

I've just had the results for my 3 horses back from Westgate. Popped the samples in the local post box yesterday afternoon (4.15pm collection) and got results by text around 1 pm today. I get the 4 pack, which works out at £8.25 per horse. Defo cheaper than my vets.

ETA I ordered the kit online, and they sent it out very promptly. You get little plastic pots to put the poo in, then plastic bags, its all very clean!

Eta- all these posts just appeared!!

We always try to mix the poo up a little. They give you a rubber glove, but we worry about cross contamination of the samples so each just use our hand (I tend to bagsy the glove :p) and wash your hands well with hibiscrub afterwards. :)

The first challenge will be keeping the two youngsters in separate stables till they produce a sample each! Left to themselves they like to share a stable!

Thanks everyone, really want to go worm count route and not just medicate without cause or info.

Yep...Another one who uses Westgate Labs for all the reasons mentioned previously by folk.

I used to be on a yard that did them as a 'job lot', but since moving further afield i use Westgate now and can thoroughly recommend them. My vets quoted me and it was around £5 more to have them do it!! Ha.

When I was at a livery yard all the samples were collected and handed to the vet for analysis. I have since moved to a country cottage and I continue to use the vet for the samples. But I drop them off at his door as he stays about 5 mins from my door.
