Does anyone do their own worm counts? If so what microscope would you recommend? (I know I need McMaster slides ect) just unsure on the microscope.
A lot of the ones I’ve found are way to expensive for just my own horses so trying to find an affordable oneI looked into it after finding out worm counts are basically useless. I thought if I tested a lot more samples then I could be more confident.
I was pointed to a microscope that linked to your pc and had software that would count the worms. Too expensive for sole use though.
Standard worm counts can be very misleading, no doubt about that, altho it’s all that most owners have to ‘rely’ on. Added onto the necessary blood tests - is a significant consideration.I looked into it after finding out worm counts are basically useless. You’ll not be on your own with that, either. I’m lucky the grassland’s mine to clear and manage as necessary, plus can also run both cattle and sheep as bio hoovers, but anyone on a large livery yard - parasites and FECs are an absolute nightmare.Disillusionment with FECs has sent me back to regular worming mine. I'm interested to see if DIY worm counts will be any better.
