Wormer help please....?

I need to worm for tapeworm and also red worm, this much i know.... I know that Pramox does both but have heard bad stories about colic afterwards and 1 horse can be colic prone. Are these true?

Are there any others which can treat both or is it cheaper/easier to buy 2 separate wormers?? Or worm for tapeworm now and redworm a bit later? Oh it's a minefield!

Only pramox treats both with its specific ingredients (which are ones without major resistance issues).(Moxedectin for the redworm, Praziquantel for the tapes)

However it is hardly more expensive to get exactly the same ingredients in separate wormers.

Tapeworm should be done spring and autumn so I would do that one now and the redworm one in the winter as thats the ideal time for that.

Redworm (incl the dangerous small encysted stage) can be handled by Equest (there are other redwormers available but for the encysted stage you really need Equest)

Tapeworm can be handled by Equitape

These two have (when both used) exactly the same ingredients as Pramox - just safer to give safely for any horses where you are concerned about the too much megablast that Pramox can be for some horses

NB You may also if you have the vet coming for other stuff want to consider blood testing for tapeworm instead of worming for it since we are all aiming to cut down on wormers. It can take a couple of weeks to come back but isnt expensive and means you will only need to worm horses who actually need it. Also my vet reckons horses who are positive are more likely to get them again even if wormed whereas repeated negative horses seem more likely to stay clear so that can help target too.

Knobberpony had her one and only [touch wood] bout of colic last August.She was due to be wormed with Pramox a few weeks later in Sept, and I worried,but she was fine.I wormed her with it again on Sunday and again,no problems.
