I always find it really hard as to what wormer to use. I need a wormer that will treat in-foal mares AND treat all worms including tape worms and bots!?? Any suggestions please.

Please Help, Thanks Claire

just make sure you stick to the same ingredient for your routine worming on an annual basis (e.g. Equimax contains Ivermectin) and use a different product with different ingredient after 12 months

Can anyone tell me which wormers/ingredients are not safe for in-foal mares, and mares with a foal at foot?

Equest is tested on in foal mares, Equitape is not. Best to use Equest at relevant times of the year, then double dose with wormer such as Strongid P or Bimectin for Tapeworm.

You can always look up the details, eg. dosage, contra indications by going into the Noahs Compendium web site, and looking up the drug, or wormer by name. I always find this very useful.

equest, panacur, strongid p is also ok for mares.
dont give equest to the foal until its at least 4 months old though.
and mares with newborns at foot should be wormed(a few days post foaling) for westeri to try to prevent the runs in newborn foals(worms given to the foal via the milk)
