Wormer Programme

Wondered if anyone could help!

Yard owner usually worms the entire yard on a programme. Found out yesterday that the yard havent wormed in a while and that they would now be expecting money up front for wormer as some liveries (although not I) havent been paying their livery on time. Fair enough I thought but Im not prepared to leave my horses health in the hands of others, it might be a while before he collects the money from others and i want to get my boy wormed asap and do my own programme. He went away to a trainer in September and was wormed on arrival but i was wondering if i wanted to start doing my own programme what should i be using and when?

Worm count first. I use westgate labs. This time of year tape & encryested red worm need worming for as you can't worm bout for this. Westgate are fab for advice and un biased.

What did you worm with in Sept? Makes a big difference on what you do now.
I always Equest Pramox in Sept (Autumn), so you wouldn't worm for tape & encryested red worm again if you did this then as is very strong wormer.

Believe you can get counts but is from blood test? Could be wrong though.
 
Right.....westgate website isnt working? ive contacted my vets.....

Was thinking of doing equest/pramox cycle (one each season) then read bad stories about colic etc.

Just called speedgate feedbarn and the 'expert' advised me that i should buy pramox and in 3 months equest.

Im worried that he will colic? also would like to give him some probiotics before hand just for some tummy health.... any suggestions?

Find out what he was wormed with first.

I wouldn't be happy doing pramox again if done in Sept. And Ive always been advised Equest Winter, Summer. Equest Pramox Spring Autumn.

I worm count on small numbers. But on large numbers with herd changing regularly then I worm Equest/Pramox yearly cycle and any with issues use another under vet advice.
