Hiya, horses are due worming again redworm and tapeworm. .. which wormer?

Also , as tapeworm wormers are for spring and autumn should I wait until March to worm.

I did have a 3 year calander but i can't find it :S

They were last done in September with Equrall.

Was thinking I need equest pramox or eqvalan duo.

Thanks!

the advice for tapeworm is now to do an Equisal test and see if they need worming or not.
If you contact Westgate Labs you'll get loads of helpful advicer.

I would have said equest pramox, but then I do mine at the beginning of the season so it might be different now we're a month or two along.

Agree with the others - i'm always contacting people to ask for advice!:)

Hiya- got advice. I need to do redworm now (Animec) and then tapeworm in march (equitape) .. actually works out cheaper too doing it separate than pramox on its own so win win. :D just awaiting wormers.
Hadrian equine is really good. Thank you

But Animec will not treat encysted redworm which is the really important winter dose? Sorry but that advice is wrong. Also now you can test for tapeworm with the Equisal test so no need to random worm just in case.

Hayleighm175, I would highly recommend that you take advice from Westgate. I now only worm once a year after taking on their advice and WEC four times a year.

I spoke to my vet re Equisal test re tapeworm after seeing the latest tapeworm tests on the Westgate info and after that discussion, I will be still worming for tape as well as encysted redworm just now with Equest paramox.

The confusion here is that Animec is ivermectin which treats most stages of redworm. At this time of year you need to treat encysted stages of redworm and only moxidecton (Equest) or 5 day Panacur guard will do that job. Please do contact us (Westgate) for some correct advice. We do not sell wormers but have an experienced team who will tell you the correct products to use.

OP, please contact Westgate, they give excellent advice and know worming inside out so to speak. I've had a look at the web page of Hadrian Equine. Unfortunately it looks like you chose the cheapest product and this was a waste of your money at this time of year. You NEED to worm for encysted red worm , only Pramox [which does tapeworm too] Equest or Panacur 5 day Guard are suitable. Neither Panacur Guard nor Equest will do tapeworm.
