worming a mini shetland

I have had her on normal wormers such as equest/panacur......... but was just wondering if there was such a thing as a shettie wormer ( that sounds stupid but im sure you know what i mean lol) as it seems such a waste i give a small amount and chuck the rest.

Ah! See what you mean! I've got 2 mini shetties and 1 Section D x so it's never a problem for me. Before I got my 2nd shettie I used to share a standard sized wormer with another livery who had a Section A and it worked out quite nicely. No other liveries on your yard or in your neighbourhood that you could share a wormer with? Why not try contacting the Shetland Pony Association (sorry, I've only got the contact details for the S Wales group) to see if they have any advice?

Stand on scales, check weight, get off scales, pick up m/s,get on scales, subtract your weight from total, drop m/s,calculate dose rate, take wormer yourself,in my experience much easier than trying to worm small determined horse.Good Luck.

Zippo - PMSL! You've obviously had years of practice of (not) worming small determined horses lol. You wanna come down and do my 2 this week??? At least you know you're free of worms! x

I would never use a moxidectin wormer on a mini, it is too easy to overdose them and im personally not willing to take that risk..

from the web on worming miniature horses with moxidectin..

"Extreme caution should be used when administering the product to foals, young and miniature horses, as overdosage may result in serious adverse reactions. Do not use in sick, debilitated, or underweight animals. Not for horses or ponies intended for human consumption."
