Hi, just to give you some background, I brought my 4yo Irish Cob unbroken from a dealer in October. When I brought him home, I wormed him with Equimax and kept him separate from my 20yo cob and his 10yo field mate (they were wormed at the same time). They stayed separate until he went to be broken at the end of October. When he came back in December I wormed him again (and the other two) before he went in with them. We poo pick reguarly (if not every day, at least four times a week) as we have limited grazing (about 3 acres for 3 horses) which is not of great quality. I didn't see any visible worms on the two previous occasions that I treated him, but last week they all had a Dectomax injection, as the two older horses have leg mites (thought best to treat them all). As you know, Dectomax is Ivermectin based and the vet confirmed that we wouldn't need to worm them now as the Dectomax has a three month cover. However, yesterday I was poo picking and found two long white worms in the dung, which by a process of elimination I am fairly sure belonged to the 4yo. The worms were rounded, creamy white and between about 10 and 15cm in length, so I think they were large roundworms (didn't look flat like tapeworm - but please correct me if I'm wrong!!!). My question is, do you think these were passed due to the treatment with the Dectomax, and should I treat again in say 4 weeks or will this be a risk of overdosing as the Dectomax is long lasting? Also, if I do treat what should it be with? I have tried contacting our local worm count lady (I know the older two usually have a less than 50 (nil) worm count) but I am sat here worrying so thought that you guys could help! Just to clarify, all horses look fit and well, and the younger one never looked poor or wormy even when he arrived - although obviously we assumed he was for safety's sake! Thanks in advance, well done for getting this far!!

its probley just getting flushed through but i would speak to vet
you should of flushed through with panacur equine guard a 5 day course then equimax but as youve done it this way maybe its just excess worms come out but as i say speak to vet

You do need the Vet, or consult a firm such as Intelligent worming.

You need to establish whether the worms in your horses are immune/resistent to certain drugs, and if you are giving your horses the correct dose. Idealy the vet will take dung and blood samples from each horse.

The prescence of some worms is only revealed by a blood test, and others are invisible to the naked eye. A few pounds spent now will save you a lot of money in the long run and safegaurd the health of your horses.

Speak with your vet, your have done for most worms, but not encysted small redworms- Equest does for them.

Then get worm counts done, if thye get to clear, then you only need to womr against bots, tpaeworm and enxysted, whihc cma be done byowrming twice a year.

Clare- Dectomax is used for leg mites in horses.
