Mixed herd of 6 live together in yard with field shelter which is swept/cleaned out daily and turned out during daily turn out for 4 hours on non poo picked field, far too muddy to pick, its like a swamp!
Herd consists of yearling filly, 4 year old, 7 year and 3 15+ year olds of varying breeds and sizes.
I wormed last summer with Ivermectin, End of October with Equimax and this Sunday with Equest so all worm types have been wormed for.
And I am planning to worm with Equimax again in 12 weeks.
Last time I wormed in October and this time, 1 of them has been passing roundworms not loads of them and only in few dropping which makes me think just the 1 of them anyway.
Having done some research I highly suspect its the yearling as they seem most susceptible to them and I caught her eating droppings few weeks ago! (I thought that was down to a gut imbalance so put her on Yeast and not caught her doing it since)
I have spoken to vet both last time and this time and he said as they are dead so wormer has worked and not to worry but I am struggling to get weight on this filly and she has hardly grown in last year (2inches) and generally doesnt seem to be thriving.
Vet is out next week for vaccinations so will get him to give her a check over and maybe take some bloody but when I suggested bloods to him he said would be waste of money and that my worming schedule is fine and to again in April as is due. I breed this filly so she has been wormed routinely since birth.
I am thinking that as she has worms again this time I obviously didnt eradicate them last time and maybe I should worm her with Ivermectin again in 4 weeks time and again 4 weeks after that and then with Equimax when due with the rest of the herd.
What would others do in this situation? There is obviously possibility its not her but I really think it is.
