Hiya all!!
I have just bought my first pony - a gorgeous chucky cob about 15hh.
The previous owner said she could do with tape worm de-wormer. Can anyone recommend one?
Also I am very confused about the whole worming routine - I was thinking worming every season but can anyone give me some advise and recommend products?

Thank you :)

Congratulations on the purchase of your first horse!

Two questions quickly - what was your horse last wormed with and when? And does your yard specify a worming schedule?

If you don't know the answers to the first question, and the answer to the second is no, I'd be inclined to get a fecal egg count done to check the worm burden (I use Westgate Labs) and they will advise on your course of action based on the results.

If you decide to just go ahead and worm, (assuming the horse is in decent condition) I'd use Equest Pramox which is a broad spectrum wormer which does tapeworm as well as most others. You could perhaps do the Equest plan for a year then worm count twice a year and worm for tape twice a year.

Agree with this, Westgate are fab, very helpful! :)

Thank you so much for your advise - really appreciated!!!
I am not sure what and when she was last wormed. The yard doesn't have any worming rules - it's only a small yard of 4.

I will defo look into the westgate labs now.

Thank you again :-)

I basically agree with Kaiserchief, but would suggest you talk it through with Westgate labs before you do anything, I have always found their advice very practical and cost effective.
