Hi to all.
my horse has to have a 5 day course of Panacur Paste to help get rid of a roundworm problem, do you think it is ok to keep riding him every day as well, if we just walked for 3/4 hr ?
he is very well in himself, full of mischief and i am desperatley trying to get him fit to compete.
thanks
Kirsti

I've always wormed and ridden - however if your horse has a worm burden problem then perhaps check with your vet first??

are you sure you don't mean a 5 day course of panacur guard to get rid of a REDworm problem???? if so i would be tempted to give the horse some time off as encysted redworms can cause anemia if they are present in large numbers. i would want to be sure the horse is totally healthy before resuming work, especially if it is in poor condition. otherwise if on a normal course of 5 day guard as part of a normal worming programme it will be fine to ride. i would also follow the guard up with an equest as there is so much resistance to guard these days you don't want the infection building up again, and equest will remove any that are left.

Hi again,
i've decided not to ride him until his 5 day course is finished, his roundworm count was only a bit above 'normal' but he is sensitive to any 'digestion' issues, we are hoping that the worm problem has been the cause of his colic problems and hopefully it will all be dealt with in one go.
would rather have a well, unfit horse than one who lost loads of weight or got colic thru stress if he was uncomfortable.
thanks for your advice everyone
Kirsti
