Hi there, just wondering if any of you use worming bits to worm your horse or give meds? My horse is on 3 weeks box rest and after a week, I can't get the meds into her. I was thinking about trying a worming bit if I can track one down. Has anyone used one of these for anything other than wormers, i.e. when giving antibiotics/pain killer powders? If so, what did you mix the powder with before putting into the bit?

I have one, but now I have horse mostly under control I prefer to just use the syringe. Between the bit left in the syringe and the bit left in the bit, you waste a lot and dosage becomes inaccurate. Also it doesn't squirt as far back in the mouth as you can with a syringe so they find it easier not to swallow if they are really resisting.
Also, when madam first arrived she realised that if she just kept jerking her head around I couldn't get the syringe in the but for long enough to dose.
Having said that, did after about an hour of hanging off her neck (literally on 2 occasions) get some wormer on her which I don't think I could have done without it, so they are ok if you really have no other option.

I've got one and it's very good. I can't get near my horse with a syringe, but I can with one of these get the meds in him. I have to hide the syringe under my arm as I approach him, otherwise (even with the worming bit in his mouth) he will have none of it.
However, if I had to use it every day he would soon get wise to it and resist just as much as if I didn't have it.

Thanks for that peeps, have spent the entire day trying to get one locally but will probably get one online, probably the dark bay one as they have more ports on them to stick tubes in apparently. Do you think If I mix antibiotic powders with yoghurt or something, I will be able to get that pushed thru the bit?? I am at my wits end with my clever lady!!

i just bought one but still could not get wormer down, until i also blind folded her. i go the dark bay one but had the easi wormer before which i think is better to be honest.
