I know some big yards like to pump their horses full of wormers... i'm not so keen, so my horses are on the 'Equest/Paramox' (sp?) program, where they are wormed 4 times a year...
i have a 4yr old TB who's on this at the mo... i wormed her at the start of March as per the program... I'm having to send her to a friends farm for the summer, lack of room, for a holiday etc.. and they wont take her without a wormer.. ie i have to send her there with one, that they'll give her (ie i can't lie about saying i've done it just before she leaves)...
So, my question is...
a) will it harm her to have too much extra wormer?
b) which one shall i send her with that isn't going to upset the one i gave her back on March 3rd????

It is actually very difficult to overdose on wormer, and it wont upset what you have all ready given her as thats been given, not to mention that it was also around 5 weeks ago. If your on the equest route, I would probably send pramox with her if i was you, although this is probably what you did last time, this worms for the majority of all the commonly found worms, and therefore would probably be the most appreciated by the recievers. The other option would be to ask them, tell them what you wormed her with last and when it was, and ask them whether they would prefer the basic equest or equest pramox.

Not really an answer to your current problem, but I was ordering wormer for my boy this morning and the nice lady at Wormers Direct said that they have found resistance to Equest/Equest Pramox and you should use it for max 2 years, then use something different for a year, then you can go back on it. Just thought I would mention it as you said that you use this program

Thanks, i'd heard that too... but the horse in question (and most of my horses) seem to change each year

so although my worming program stays the same, i don't have the same horses

Equimax is a broad spectrum wormer that covers everything, I have a small private yard and give the livery horses this 4 times a year on my OH istructions (Vet) I had a worm count and blood test done on my horses a couple of months ago and they had a nil reading. You have to blood test as the worm count doesn't test for every type of worm. I just wanted to see if I was doing the right thing as we have wormed with this wormer & system for about 5yrs now.
