The yard I'm at has a rule saying you must worm new arrivals and keep them in for 24 hours.
My friend has brought a new horse, it was wormed with Equest Pramox 3 weeks ago. Is it safe to worm again now?
(the rest of the yard are due to be wormed with Pramox in 3 weeks, will she have to be wormed again then?)

it shouldn't harm to the horse as it's not enough to over dose him but he will end up with a resistance to the wormer. would they not let her get a worm count done instead

Yup, that's why I posted, my vets on holiday until Tuesday and don't really want to ring and ask the locum (sp) & I'm assuming if I emailed the company we buy our wormers from they wont answer until Tuesday either

Poor horse has been living out and the new owners feel a bit mean making it stay in until Tuesday at the earliest.

no,you mustn't worm him with equest again. it's stored in the body and released slowly over the following few wks - he'll still have levels in his body and giving him another dose could be damaging. if they insist on you worming then i'd give something rubbish like panacur which wont really do anything. i also wouldn't agree to worming him again in 3wks time - it's designed to be used every 13wks, not 3 or 6 and it could be damaging to him to do it more frequently. keeping them in for 24hrs after worming is such an old-fashioned thing to do as well - there's no scientific evidence behind such practice.
