How often do you worm and does the whole yard do it properly? Do you turn back out on the same field immediately or do you keep your horse in for worming?

Lots of questions!

Our YO got fed up with people not worming that she instigated a yard-wide policy, where she buys the wormers from the vet (or we worm count) and they all get done at the same time.

If they're on 24hr TO (in summer) then they have to stay in 24 hours after worming, but then go back into the same field. In winter they go back into the same field as well.

The last worm count we did came back with all horses were negative, except 2 fairly new ones, who obviously hadn't wormed when they moved on, despite being told too!

I have a worming programme on my yard - every horse is wormed by me on the same day. Horses remain in same fields and fields are harrowed.

All horses on my place are worm counted, by myself and wormers given by owners as needed. This means that most are wormed once or twice a year. We have plenty of grazing but too many fat horses to move very much.

fairhill why not try buying your wormers from yor feed merchant or saddlery or wherever has a licence to sell them, you will probabaly find they are a lot cheaper than your vet? we sell wormers in the shop and i know for a fact we are remarkably cheaper than any of the vets around here.
