Worming twice in a short space of time?

Looking for some advice. I am about to move yards and will need to worm when I get to the new yard. My current yard has just announced that we need to worm this weekend. Is it ok to worm twice in 2 weeks or would I be better to move sooner?

Arrghh, is the old yard one that still has a blanket worming policy? What wormer will be used? Get a worm count done before the first wormer is administered, and then a resistance test two weeks later so that you can see if the first dose sorted everything out, and if not, what to use next.

Worming twice in two weeks won't poison the horse. It is commonly done if a worming resistance test shows that the first wormer didn't zap everything.

Have a look at this recent case study on the Westgate labs FB page, it's very interesting. Westgate are very helpful and knowledgable with any queries about worming practices, give them a call and see what they say.

I'd just explain to the new yard that horse has just been wormed. Offer to do a count if they want one.

I wouldn't want to do that unless absolutely necessary. I agree that offering to do a worm count would be a much better option and if they won't accept that I would speak to Westgate and possibly my vet too for their advice.

I had to worm twice with two different products when my horse got pin worm last year. The vet told me what ingredients in the products I needed and I went out and bought them (two syringes of the one as weight wise he's a big lad) - cost me a fortune!! I think I only had a break of a fortnight between the two different products and this was on vets advice, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I agree with everyone else about the worm count, I've done three during the time on this yard and all have come back negative.

Worming twice quick succession for a problem is very different to worming just because the yard says so.
