Well my horse is rather large at the moment and has a huge grass belly still despite no grass!

He is on the yard worming programme and was wormed along with the other horses in summer. I was wondering if this huge belly could be worms, and was thinking of worming again. I have no clue when the yard is next worming but nothing has been mentioned!
Would it effect the programme if i wormed again, and would he be able to get the second dose along with the yard when they next worm?

Also what should I worm with, equest?!

You need to find out when your yard is worming - you don't want to be giving him two lots if it's not necessary.

I would get a worm count done and take it from there (you can buy worm count kits online - just Google it).

I would ditto the worm count idea. We've just had ours done, and are now not worming at the mo as they have no worms. but a bit different to most people, our horses have been in their herd of four for five years and have been wormed well, so i think we have just killed everything off (bar tapeworm)

If the horses were last wormed in summer then they must be due to be wormed by now. If you really think your horse may have a worm burden, then get an egg count done, and a blood test for tapeworm. IF you worm outside of the programme (which I really would not do), at this time of year you need Pramox

get an poo count done to see what worms your horse has if any but you will have to blood test for tape worms because that will not show on the poo count!
