Hello,
Got my new little pony yesterday! i Will post some pics later!
The man i bought her off said that she needed worming in 4weeks, i want to get her onto the Equest and Equest parmox worming routine. When 4weeks is up and she needs doing it it safe to just give her the equest wormer as thats the one for the summer apparently or should i find out what her previous wormer was?
Thanks

TBH I would worm her with pramox then next time she needs worming just worm her with whatever's suitable for that time of year.

By doing this, you'll almost be starting from a 'blank canvas' ready for her next worming which will probably be july time. and it's also a good idea to worm any new horses before they get turned out on shared grazing.

Too be honest, I would worm her now, and not wait. I would also keep her on her own till she has been wormed, or better still stabled. My friends pony was allegedly up to date with his worming and I have never seen so many worms come out of a horse in my live. Large round worms found in his droppings prior to worming so wormed with Equest, under vets instruction, then wormed with Equitape a week later and dropping turned red with the number of worms that came out.

I wouldn't use Parmox on horse not know to me (unless you really know/trust the horse has been properly wormed to date). It would be safer to use Equest and then a Equitape.

I would Equest and then Equitape a week later. Or if you believe the horse has been correctly wormed you could have a worm count done to check if worming is required, but I would still Equitape (or something similar) as Tapeworms and Encrysted don't show on a worm count.

Obviously Parmox would worm for everything in one hit, but I would be reluctant to use on a new horse incase it had a large worm burden as there is a possibility it could colic.

I used pramox on a small shettie and had no problems, I was advised by the lady in the shop that it would be better than say Panacur Guard. Shetty had a very very mild colic, but he hadnt really been wormed regularly, and I think whatever I'd have used it would have made his tummy sore for a bit.

If the worming history is unknown it may not be wise to worm with Pramox as if there is a burden, then Pramox will 'empty' them of worms which could result in encisted worms causing colic. I would use Equest this time then Pramox next time which will cover everything. Would also get worm count done prior to Pramox, however that will not show encisted.
