I have never heard of this but my husband has come home from work and said a fellow workmate said his wife had tried a horse to purchase and it had such bad worms they were coming out of its eyes! His wife wants to buy the horse but my husband said he wouldn't.
I have never heard or seen this ,anyone else heard of it?

Stomach worms (Habronema)

Signs: summer sores.

The larvae of stomach worms are passed out in the dung, ingested by flies which deposit them into wounds on the horse’s skin and in moist areas, e.g. around the eyes. The tumour-like nodules (summer sores) that form can become very large. The avermectin wormicides have markedly reduced the incidence of summer sores.

Could it be that the larvae has been deposited in the eyes and these are the hatchlings?

eeeww, gross!

Poor horse.
Well, I would have thought that if the worm infestation was so bad, and there is an inference of a high level of neglect here if the seller doesn't even notice worms coming out of the eye sockets....
Don't touch it with a barge pole and refer it to the RSPCA!

Would never have believed it. I have to agree, leave well alone and report them. Poor horse, much have terrible long-term damage by now.
