Worms?? Or something else??? bit gross sorry!!

New rescue dog is a jrt bitch aged about 7. I've had her about a 6 weeks. Supposedly she was wormed and flea treated by the rescue but recently she's started doing that dragging her bottom along the floor thing quite a lot. Its getting embarrassing. I wormed her myself two weeks ago with Drontal but she is still doing it. She sometimes seems to have a little trouble going for a poo - sort of straining to expel it. It its not worms, what could it be? Her bottom looks OK. Could it be anal glands - how would I know??

Sounds like anal glands, vet can empty the anal glandsm for you. They pong a bit. I'd be popping her to the vet either way.

What are you feeding her on?

She's eating Wainwrights biscuits with a spoonful of cooked minced beef. She gets a raw bone about once a week but she doesn't seem to know what to do with it. Will get the vet to take a look at her. Thank you for your advice - much appreciated.

Sounds like anal glands

yup defs sounds like anal glands to me - our old lab bitch used to do the same.

it could also be a sign of an infected anal gland so definitely pop to the vets - if it is just full glands then they can show you how to empty them for the future.

Sounds like anal glands. You can always add some bran to her food to pad out the poo and she will express the anal glands naturally when she goes to the toilet

Thanks to everyone. Took the dog to the vet today and it IS her anal glands. She's been given a steroid injection and should hopefully be OK now. Vet said not to change her diet unless we have further problems.
