last October I bought 2 yearlings which were wormered before sale. 4 days after i bought them 1 of them passed several ascarids in his droppings. I wormed again with Strongid-P [double dose]after 1 month [Nov] [vets advice] then in the February with Panacur5 day guard. Then I did worm counts in May and got a count of 450 for one and less than 50 for the other [the once which had passed the ascarids]. Vet said not to worm. in Aug this year I wormed with Panacur , no worm count, i just thought it would be a good idea! Last week I noticed 1 yearling coughing and on monday I double dosed both of them with Strongid -P, the day after finding an ascarid whilst poo-picking. There have been no bots this year.
So , have I caused any harm by not worming more frequently? Should I worm with Strongid-P again in 6 weeks time? then again 6 weeks later then do a Panacure guard again in Feb 2012? or should I just do worm counts again?
I thought with daily poo-picking and worming as I have done they would have been pretty much worm free, but obviously not.
I wonder if the recent mild wet weather after the dry summer has anything to do with it?
