Hello,

Just trying to gt my head around worming for the new pony. I know he was wormed in January with Eqvalan and he hasn't been wormed since. I would like to use worm counts and only worm when neccessary in the long term. I know worm counts don't pick up tapeworm or encysted worms. Am I right in thinking that I should be worming for tapeworm now?

How do you worm new horses and what sort of regime do you use with worm counts?

Cheers

:)

I get mine blood tested by vet for tapeworm when they have their teeth done early in the year, as I dont like worming for anything thats not essential. I worm count for the other types. I know it doesnt cover ?encysted redworm so worm them once a year for that in the autumn, plus worm any other time the count indicates.

Just had count done and 'no eggs seen <50 for both hurrah!

Mind you there are 2 of them on 8 acres...
