To cut a long story short, I keep my rising 19yr old boy on working livery on the yard I also work at. Got fed up with the amount of work he was doing and watching other people riding him and him being used for navy/marines who come for a whole week which means that I don't get to ride or spend any time with him.
Anyhoo, I moved him today to a lovely quiet yard just down the road from where he was before, 2 of the horses there he already knows so thought things would be fine. He was in the paddock next to the others and didnt even bother saying hello to them, he just wanted to eat grass! Perfect I thought, until the yard owner put the 2 that he already knows in with him (mare and gelding) well the mare is in season and was flirting with my boy, who then got very possesive of the mare. At the end of the day, the mare got moved back into the paddock next to him and he flipped his lid. So much so I had to bring him in and put him in his box. I've never seen him like that before and to be honest it scared me a bit as I just didn't know what he was going to do. I just hope that once the mare finishes her season, things will calm down a bit. Didn't think geldings got possesive over mares in season.
Sorry for the long post, just needed to get it off my chest xx
