Had a call this evening from the YO about my mare, when they turned her out her back end sort of went really lame and weird and it looked as though her hip was out and she was about to collapse?? she took a few strides and looked very uncomfortable and was kicking out her leg, they bought her back in and called me. I came down and got her out her stable and she seemed 100% fine. Turned her in a few circles and checked her all over, again fine. Turned her back out (she was keen) she had a loon around the field and a buck which she always does when she goes out and looked sound, mucked out checked her again and she seems normal.
Quite worried about this now, what could it have been? could it have been stiffness as shes been in all day? entrance to field is right outside her stable?
Shes just turned 5, TB and never had back probs before??
Thanks in advance
(also in vet)

Sounds like it could be a locking stifle if she is ok now? It is most common in younger horses that have grown too quickly or perhaps done a bit too much before their body is ready and as yours is only 5 that sounds like a distinct possibility - if she was 15 or something and it was the first time it happened then I would be more worried personally. Don't panic too much as it is usually a case of time and physio / stretches etc to get it sorted, but I would get the vet to check her out for a proper diagnosis as obviously without seeing the horse nobody can be sure. I may be way off the mark anyway!

Hope that helps and sorry to be quick, but wanted to try and help you stop panicking ;-)!
