I need your advice please. Our pony is kept as much as possible on short grass but keeps escaping into bigger field with lush grass. Now YO wants to move horses soon to the winter field and I am worried about her weight. They are kept out 24/7 until too severe weather. Now I need your help what to do. Do I keep her seperate from the other horses (just a little paddock in sight to the others doesn't work, she always escapes SOMEHOW :( ) or should I use a grass muzzle 24/7? She hates being alone and she WILL find a way through the fence if I use electric fencing. The only way would be bring her in or on a total different field on her own. But I know she will be stressed out like mad.

Here are two pics of our pony.

She is already very hairy BUT definitely has a grass belly and seems all in all chubbier. I will not rug her, no hard feed and exercise her with the kids and when kids in school. How do you manage to keep weight of "good doers"?

Thanks for reading and hopefully some good tips.

Hope you get some good advice.
im not very good with things like that, but I personally wouldnt take her away from horses for good, the stress wouldnt do her much good :(

Just wanted to say, your pony is gorgeous and the little girl looks so happy in that first pic :D

I have my mare muzzled but she's only out for 6 hours max. Maybe muzzle her during the day then at night take off the muzzle and put her in a small paddock so she is next to the others. Have you tried about 4 lines of tape all electrified? Hope you find a solution x

Edited to say, what a cute little pony :)

I would try a combination of use of muzzle when out (may not need to be on all the time), and having her out part the day, and in part the day (or at night).

If you use electric fence you need something with a good zap or it is pointless.

You will soon work out what works best for her, and she is a cute pony.

Can't you ask another livery with a good doer to put there's in with her in a small paddock perhaps? she wouldn't be on her own then.

Thanks for all your replies.

I tried using more tape BUT she just doesn't care about the zapping. Can't really put more power on it as YO wouldn't agree to it.

We haven't got a "spare" good doer to go in a paddock with her. On the yard are just 2 horses of YO and my horse and pony. One field gets sprayed now, bottom field will rest as soon as we go into the Winter fields. And in my opinion there is far too much grass on for them. YO lets her horses on it without concern. Both bigger, cobs and clydesdale x. (I have managed to get a lot of weight of the cob as I was his sharer before I got mine :( ).

I will finally go shopping tomorrow and get a grass muzzle and if it makes no difference I might stable both at night time or hope they can go on the top field after weed killers cleared. I just would prefer to keep them out 24/7 as it's much nicer for them
