I'm getting her back from being on loan and it's just occurred to me that I'll be too heavy to ride her. The lady she's been on loan to is very slender and I'm a fattybumbatty. Size 16/18 and weigh 12 and a half stone. She's welsh d x dales and 14.3hh. Mind you with mucking out etc I may (hopefully!) loose some weight now.

I ride a 13.2 Highland and am a good couple of stones heavier than you. He is find plodding up the hills with me, and I'm sure a Welsh D x Dales wouldn't have a problem with your 12.5 stones :)

You have absolutely no need to worry. They (not sure who 'they' are mind you) say that 1 stone per hand and the horse/pony can manage fine, that does mean I could theoretically ride a 10.3hh . Horses struggle far more with unbalanced riders than they do with riders weight so put this straight out of your mind and thoroughly enjoy getting back in the saddle :D

Wow thanks all!! I've not ridden for a couple of years will be unbalanced too. Still we'll only be walking so should just about manage that lol.

She sounds like a real solid native who will carry you just fine I am sure. Sounds like she has been kept in regular work with her loan home so I am sure she will be fine. As you say, you may well start to see the weight drop off with the horsey chores
