my horse has been treated for resp infection , thick nasal discharge , no temp and coughing , no other symtoms , was off food for couple of days few weeks ago but no cocnerns now , finsihed abs a week ago , had discharge last week but now settled , slight odd cough still present , however last night when he came in under his neck there are large cuts and oozing , i am not sure if it is were his mask has rubbed or start of strangles , worried xx

Isolate your horse and any horses that have been in contact since first symptoms noticed, including any that have shared grazing or been able to nuzzle over the fence.

Call your vet. Even if there are vets on here, they can't examine your horse, so can't tell you anything concrete. At best all we can do is guess so prepare for the worst by isolating, call your vet and hope for the best.

Good luck. x

If it is stragnels then it is going to be a pain in the butt to manage.... individual grooming kets, minimum visits onto the yard and no leaving the yard
BUT
it is not doom and gloom.....

a few years ago my horses were at a yard where there was strangles.
2 out of 3 of mine showed external sysmptoms of different levels the worst being abcesses in the throat ...

However NOT one aninmal suffered long term effects or died.

It was just a pain as we were at a competition yard and this was at the start of the season so the worst bit to deal with was us bored owners!!!
