really worried. my horse is going in to hospital tomorow to have nerve blocks and x rays as hes been lame on and off for 2 months now. vet came out earlier and we've narrowed it down to somewhere below his knee so could really be anything.

what do nerve blocks involve? i know the basics but anybody had any experience with the sucess of them finding out what is wrong?

Try not to worry, at least they will get to the bottom of it.

Nerve blocks are pretty easy. Basically what will happen is the vet will inject local anesthetic into the horses leg at various points to anesthetize specific areas, to see if they can pin point the pain. You will have to trot up the horse on a hard surface, then they will do the nerve blocks, and you will trot up again. If the horse comes sound they will know what part of the horse was causing the pain. They they will be able to narrow it down so they can x-ray the area and see what is causing the problem.

Good luck!

xx

Yes they will lunge him in a circle after doing straight line.Probably test him before blocking with flexation as well.

How did your tests go.We are going the same route again soon with lame horse nerve blocks and xrays plus scans.Hope its not too bad

not too bad. they blocked it off at the heal and he came sound so they x rayed and found side bone.

he's staying at the vets tonight :-( so they can do even more specific nerve blocking tomorrow to find if its one side or both and then they may have to do a bone scan- i've been warned by the vet this is really expensive so i'm bit worried. i've asked a couple of ppl and they've said its £2000 eeeek! hes insured by only up to £4500

I dont know anything about that but pleased you have a conclusion.I have nearly run out on insurance too £6000 this year mostly due to spavin op.Keep us posted
