went up the yard today and there is gelding out with my mates mare and when we was there the gelding got on her but my mate is very worried as the gelding got shoes on do you think it could be a rig and also very worried because he got all 4 shoes on

I doubt very much if he's a rig! He is just doing what horses do - being a horse. The mares are all coming into season atm and tarting. If she didnt want him on her back she would definately let him know

There is alot to be said for seperating mares and geldings on a livery yard.

Doubt it, my friends pony mounted her mare when she first got her and he wasn't a rig. like llwyncwn said, if she didn't want him there, she wouldn't let him! lol

Our black one can still be seen to mount a mare, he def isnt a rig but was a stallion until 5, I guess he just wants to relive the good old days!

It happens a bit down our yard, all the mares and geldings are together and its not uncommon for a mare to come in with hoof prints on its bum. Its just natural which is the way I think it should be tbh. If the mare was not happy the gelding would not get chance to mount it im sure.
