Went up to the yard this morning to find my poor boy has somehow had a nasty bash to his eye overnight! No idea how as theres nothing sharp in his stable
frown.gif

He's feeling very sorry for himself and cant open his eye! Hes lost his sense of balance and hes very wary and cautious probably because he cant judge where me and other objects are
frown.gif

As if that wasnt enough to ruin my Christmas I had an arguemument with my mum - over horse and his eye! And I saw a poor stray dog wandering the streets and my mum wouldnt let me stop and help it
frown.gif

I dont want to go for Christmas dinner because im upset and not in the mood and my cousins have a nasty tummy bug which i dont want to catch as i start my new job in january and thats all i need. I also fell out with my boyfriend last night

oh no i hope ur horses eye will be ok..... as for the stray dog you cant help them all unfortunatly it,s sad but true im sur you will make up with ur mum and ur fella try to enjoy the rest of your christmas day xxxxx

Sounds like your having a rubbish day for sure

Re your horse. could it be that he's done something which has caused him to lose balance and hurt his eye rather than the loss of balance as a result of him hurting his eye. I could see him walking into things because his spatial awareness is goosed but not sure why it would affect his balance

Hope you get to the bottom of it very soon. Hugs in the meantime

Thanks guys. Minxie hes actually blind in that eye and has been ever since i owned him (did not know this when i bought him!) He manages very well other than the occasional bump into things but its really flared up this morning and weepy and he seems really confused and off balance which isnt like him as hes norammly so careful. I just cant understand what hes managed to bang it on as hes been in that stable 3 years and theres nothing in there to bang it on. I just hope hes ok when its gone down because last time he banged it he really lost his confidence and he wouldnt jump which isnt like him at all as he loves jumping
frown.gif
it will be such a shame if i have to stop jumping him because he really enjoys it and so do I

((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))

Hope your horse is okay.

Sorry to hear your day is a bit pants so far.

Tummy bugs are usually passed by not washing hands at the right times, so just make sure you don't sit too close and keep washing. Good luck - not easy when you know you're walking into a potential tummy bug.

It's not easy, but try and keep the peace and everyone happy.

Perhaps your mum will feel sorry for you later and take you back down the yard to see your boy.

Oh no, a vet call out on a Christmas day
frown.gif
. I remember following the vet up to our yard 2 Christmas's ago and hoping against hope it wasn't to see mine. Thankfully, it wasn't

My horse had an injury over his eye after getting cast. Unfortunately he'd actually fractured his skull.

Hope yours isn't too serious.

Don't worry about letting it out, Milosgirl, I'm not having the best one either... partly because I am a vet on call on Christmas day. I got my first call at 8am on the dot (to be fair the owners had known there was a bit of a problem since about 6am but waited to call me) and that kept me out for several hours. I've got bigger issues at work too, but can't really go into that, but most of all my mum's got a tummy bug so we're all doing Christmas on Sunday instead!

Hope your boy's eye is ok- just wanted to let you know you're not alone in having a bit of a cr*ppy Christmas and you have my sympathy!

I hope that reading this puts things in perspective? I like to think that we think of others at Xmas, + believe me, a vet's job is one of the most difficult known to man. I gave mine bottle of port, cheese, + card of appreciation.

I hope we all show similar appreciation. BS x

Have you called the vet? Eye injuries should be taken very seriously and if he was already blind in the eye he's at higher risk of corneal ulcers etc. I hope he is ok.

Doesn't sound like the worst Christmas ever, really, though. Some people are really suffering, the rest of us should be grateful.

Lauren I'm very, very sorry for the loss of your horse. I lost mine a couple of weeks ago and was a bit sad when serving up the "Christmas dinner" for my other one!

Oh dear. Have you actually had the vet out?

It could be worse
smile.gif
Christmas last year I was in hospital after being double barrelled in the face and breaking pretty much all the bones in my face!

Ouch
crazy.gif
did it all heal up ok?

Yes and no. I broke both eye sockets, both cheekbones, sinuses, my nose and my upper and lower jaw multiple times and some very badly broken skin. The fractures went though to the brain, so I'm very lucky to be alive!! When my mother first saw me in resus then the skin between my nose and mouth was ripped right open to the bone

I had my first surgery on the 27th (accident happened on the 23rd) and they wired my jaw up for 2 months and made it home to my own bed in time for new year, where I stayed for quite some weeks! Given what I looked like on Christmas day, it's a miracle how they've fixed me. My nose isn't quite the same shape though, and I have 3 scars, the worst of which is where they stitched up my upper lip. My maxillofacial surgeon isn't very pleased with that and has referred me to a plastic surgeon I'm seeing next month about them cutting out the scar tissue there.

I now wear glasses, as my eye sight is poorer than it used to be, my front upper teeth permanent hurt, I feel the cold badly in the fractures, I get a lot of headaches, memory problem, fatigue, attention problems etc. I also have terrible whiplash in my neck and shoulders from the force that my head was kicked back with which means I am very inactive; I can't run, ride, cox like I used to before (which means I've put on over 2 stone)
frown.gif

Still, I'm, very, very lucky to be alive
smile.gif
and had the most fabulous Christmas yesterday, because after an experience like that, then it really puts things in perspective, and you really know how to appreciate everything

ouch puppy! good luck with the future surgery!

& sadly im another who has had a pretty rubbish xmas, had my big lad (17.2 hunter) pts on xmas eve as he had managed to dislocated his hip. It the first horse iv had pts & it hit me pretty hard, especially trying to be cheerful around the family & still doing the rest of the horses on xmas day. Hes a big presence to be missing from the yard
