Worst thing about racing = injuries

So my favorite horse broke down in a race last week
She's been retired and sold on as a broodmare.
She is the sweetest horse EVER to do in the stable, I could not fault in her the slightest and I blubbed like a baby when I realized how bad her injury was. Its going to be horrible looking at her stable and not seeing her head over the door.
She hadn't won a race (though I know she would have) and whether she was a group 1 winner or not, it makes no difference.

I'm going to miss that horse like anything
Just praying she will go to a wonderful home.

It happens to the best of them, not only in racing as well you know.

My old arab broke down in a race at Huntingdon, we really didn't think she was going to come out of the stables alive. She had a year off (3 months box rest) then nearly died with colic, so had another year off after Rossdales worked their magic, on their say-so she was put in foal, so she had probably nearly 3 years off.

After that she did endurance, hunted hard for several years and bred some really decent foals. Never had a colic episode or a days lameness on the broken down leg for the rest of her life.

I hope 'your' girl recovers well and goes on to have a good life. It is almost as bad as them dying when you see that empty box though isn't it? One of the hard parts about not owning them

You are right it happens to any horse, racehorse or your happy hacker in the field. I will see plenty more of this by working in racing, its the first horse iv'e ever looked after who has had a bad injury and ive lost. It'll just take some getting used to. At least I know she will not end up in finders lasange as long as the owner and trainer have something to do with it.

I wonder which horse will be in her box. Ill find out soon enough
