Worth a look?......

He looks strong and he's jogging in one of the pictures- I wouldnt call that an ideal novice's hunter, on paper anyway.

May well be worth a look-see. For that price though he'd have to be very good at his job.

Do you have an experienced bod to go with you?

Thats a very cheap price for a GOOD hunter.

It says hes bold and is ridden in a pelham, he is also quite chunky. How novice is novice? He looks like he would give quite a powerful feel, not ideal for a novice. no harm in ringing for more info though, the advert doesnt say much

I think i'll give them a call and ask a few more questions about him...really liked the look of him! i think the price looks ok...it is a trader tho!

Exactly. He'd have to be very good at his job (one would have to know the horse/have more info. to determine how good he is). If the OP wants to do more than 'just hunt', the hunting part of its value has to be proportionate to the OP's needs/wants.

I would ring up find out how much hunting he has done. If they say he is sutable for a novice ask if the hunt sec would give him a ref. Then i would take a look. That is cheep if he is a quiet hunter they are worth there weight in gold.

If this is the dealer I think it may be, would like to add that as dealers go, I think he is one of the more honest ones with a good reputation. I have no connections or interest in his yard, but remember a few years ago answering an advert for a cheap hunter. I was told without having to ask that it was a horse that would not ride out on its own, was a good hunter, but nothing else, so not suitable for anything else, which made it a no no for me as I wanted an all rounder.

Perhaps it is reasonably priced due to some fault which does not stop it being a decent hunter, such as a vice maybe, or possibly something like stringhalt, or perhaps it has the odd quirk when handled from the ground, like difficult to clip or shoe? Perhaps it has an allergy and has to have soaked hay or hayledge. Does it have a sarcoid? There are all sorts of things which can keep a price down, but it could still be a decent ride. There is no way of knowing without investigating.

All you can do is ask everything you can think of, before going to see him. He does look lovely, but I also know that the market is awfull at the moment, so could be he is totally genuine and a quick sale may be needed.

Good luck!
