I would like to take my yearling Newforest to one or two shows this year- partly for the experience (him not me) and partly to see if he's worth keeping entire. His attitude is amazing- hes a real love and moves very very very stright, loose and with real presence- however im no expert on confo and dont want to keep something entire if its got flaws that could be passed on. Before even getting to the show ring to get judges opinions- what do you guys think? worth taking to the shows? or is he not really good enough- ive shown hunters but never natives so please feel free to say what you think. For info he is 12months, 12hh at wither and 12.1hh at rump. Fully reg- Forest Bred.

this one is very windswept so his manic mane doesnt really let you see his neck but just so you see both sides.

I would take him to shows, because all judges are different.. which I have found!!
Personally I think that he needs to grow into himself a little more as he looks so tiny whereas his neck and head are a wee bit larger. But for 12 months he looks really good.
Definately take him into native and youngster classes.

Let us know how you get on!!

Whats his breeding? His head/ears are v.similar to my forester at that age, she is rising 7 now though. If he moves nicely he should do well, and its always good to see more foresters in the show ring, I normally get swamped by Welshies (runs for cover from potential attack by Welsh owners...

JM07 is the one you should ask about New Forests.

Personally, I don't like his limbs, and feel that he's too upright in front. However, that's just my opinion - and certainly showing him would be such fun.

I'm not sure he's one to keep entire though.

Fun?! ha ha i've never been a big fan of in hand showing because im pants at getting them to trot nicely- can do it ridden (and he does it very well loose) but I seem to get in his way ( i cant run very well due to riding injury) and the BF says he will look stupid

but I want to know if he needs his balls off or not- temperement and action wise I would say yes- confo wise- I havent got a clue- om only good with hind linbs (previous horse had hock injury so read into hind limb confo/athletisism)
I just dont want to go to the expense of hiring a lorry, bathing, buying show stuff for him if hes not good enough for the ring- and if hes not good enough for the ring- come Autum- those danglies will be no more!
