Debating changing from a single cheval to a double. Is it worth it for the sake of a tackroom and space the other side of the partition? I show predominantly so want to be able to get changed and stay as clean and tidy as possible. Or maybe I should just take the horse out of the trailer to get changed? Urgh! Help!

Probably depends on how good your horse is/do you have help. Probably quite nice to have space which is clean rather than getting changed where the horse has straw or shavings down.

This is the configuration of my trailer, the partition isn't quite pushed across from the left to the centre of the floor inside but you can get the drift of the configuration by seeing where the partition in in place in the roof at the back.

Dad configured the partition setting back in 1997 when the bum of the horse I had at the time kept disappearing from view of the top of the tailgate by the car following it containing Mum and Dad, they were concerned that my horse was slipping inside.

We altered the positioning of the breast bar as he was fairly long in the body, so we brought that forward, laid rubber matting on the floor and moved the partition 3/4 v 1/4 with the 3/4 space for the horse to travel in so he could spread his legs to keep balance easier. Dad fitted me a few hooks on the left side of the inside of trailer, and a rug rail on the top of the partition on the left side. I had plenty of room to store hay nets, buckets of water, shovel, broom and bucket with room to get changed if I wanted to, even with the horse in the trailer at the same time! It worked really well. We have retained the same partition spacing for the next horses use.

I think my trailer is either a Bahil or a Rice/Richardson but whatever it is, its had the floor replacing, the steel chassis strengthened and painted inside and out, its a smashing trailer. I'm sure you could do the same with your chosen model of trailer if you were to buy a double, although my Dad was a service engineer, so had a lathe down the shed with all the metal working tools and taps and dies and goodness knows what to be able to faciliate changing the configuration and new what he was doing, which helped!

I'm in the same position OP. You can get full length breastbars for the cheval if that sways you? I do like my single. But I also have 2 horses now. Although chances of them both being out together is 50/50. Too many decisions!

Depends if you get a touring or a touring XL. The new XLs are huge! Loads more room around the tack locker. I have a standard tourer and the tack locker is a godsend for stuff!! I can fit in my tack locker…2 saddles, 2 bridles, handy shelf for hat, body protector, bits and bobs, boots. On the floor of the tack locker I keep my water container, buckets, muck fork and bucket for poops, step for mounting, riding boots. Honestly it’s fab!
I’d definitely get the XL if your horse is over 16.2 x
