Hi,

Would a specialist Hunt livery yard work? It would be catering for the proffessionals working and living in the city who want their horses looked after and prepared for hunting as and when requested. Full livery services offered plus prep for, transport, after care all included. So basically the owners would just ride!

Would there be a call for such a yard?

Let me know.

Depends where you are but yes, I ran one for 12 years in the south of England and took it over from someone who had been running it for, quite literally, generations before that.

It's extremely hard work, you have to have exacting standards (because your liveries will!) and despite the fact that you can charge quite a bit you need to allow for not having much of an income during the summer months. Mind you, you need those months to recover usually!

If there is anything specific you want to ask, feel free to pm me.

At one time hunt livery yards were the only livery yards, in the countryside at least.

One lady used to work in one and she was taught to plait by the old stud groom who made her plait a black mane with white thread and didn't want to see any white peeping through!

I heard complaints about some less than thoughful owners who said things like "I keep my horse to hunt, not to have time off" when the YO said he was having a hard season and maybe give him a break.
