I've a few nice low level competition horses on the go and I was thinking of putting an ad up to see if anyone would be interested in helping ride them, (they would have an option to compete them or go to clinics etc as well). but I just worry my criteria might be too tight and the ad might sound very offputting?! I don't know if its even worth putting it up or if its a situation anyone would even want to do? so any feedback appreciated! basically I have 3/4horses to keep on the go ridingwise, and it would be amazing to cut the time down by being able to hack out two at the same time, or take two to clinics etc. also when there's training up doing focussed pole days etc that I have someone to ride another horse on the lesson. or do pairs in hunter trials etc,. so it's not exactly like a loan, it's more like they have to get on board with a training programme and pop and in and out when it suits them, but with regularish commitment. no money commitment wanted, but they would cover clinics/comps themselves.

in the dream scenario
- it would be someone who is a good rider, has evented, and can jump 1m plus and higher than novice dressage.
- is around most weekends and happy to be up early to do forestry hillwork with me one day most weekends
- is used to hot/sensitive horses
- would be happy to come along to clinics/endurance rides/beach etc when it suits them, I use them for fitness a lot
- we have great instructors come to yard so ideally they would like lessons the odd time so we are on the same page on how they are ridden
- is welcome to compete horses but must work around what the plans I have for them are
- can go up to yard and ride whatever/ whenever they want 2 days a week in arena

I'm based in kildare/west wicklow

would that be attractive to any riders or is it too much hassle? I'm tossing up whether to advertise or not.

This is the sort of thing that I was looking for when I didn't have my own. A lot of people who want sharers have the sort of horses I didn't want to ride - and the ones who did wouldn't be wanting to share them out!

I think this one depends how easy you are to get along with - batty owner + stringent regime = not so fun. Nice owner + great opportunities = amazing!

It could well suit someone, however my view on it is this:

If you are expecting someone to give up a large chunk of their time to your horses, for no financial reward, then you have to expect that either they will be
a) novice but keen to learn and you’ll have to put your side into training them, or
b) skilled and experienced, but they’ll want to have more say in what they do and what they’ll get out of it.

I don’t think you’ll get an experienced rider jumping 1m plus who will
- compete and improve your horses
- do it according to your schedule and needs
- do it for free

I think you can pick any two of those three attributes, but I don’t think you’ll find all three in one person.
