I gave my lot a few grass nuts in their feed starting about four days ago. I've noticed two of them have got puffy legs. No real heat or anything just puffy. One horse just on front legs and the other (on box rest) on all legs
Can grass nuts cause filled legs?

It isn't a problem we've ever had and we have fed grass nuts for years. I would suggest that you are careful about not going overboard with them, they are brilliant for putting condition on horses, so can put fat on very easily with them.

Unlikely, in my experience.

Check the bag for the protein levels for the brand you are using sometimes it is as high as 22% (spring grass in a bag!). You can get them with a different grass blend where protein levels are down to 9%.

As the others have said, its usually lack of movement which causes filled legs.

But why not try taking them off the grass nuts for a few days and see if they go back to normal?

We have had a bit of a virus amongst several of ours and that has caused filled legs. They have not been particularly off colour but the one we did blood test showed clearly that it was a virus. I have also met several other people who have had the same thing.

I would cut out the nuts, get back to a staus quo and when all is well try the nuts again then you will know if they are the cause.
