Ive recently split from my partner and am faced with having to split our house etc.
I really want/ need to keep hold of my house so am looking to keep the morgage on my own. However unfortuantly this means that the horse is going to have to go.
My ned is rather quirky. He's a 15.2 9yo gelding wih alot of personality, but he hasnt done much due his previous owner/ breeder.
Ive had him 18months and he's come on leaps and bounds with the work ive put in.
He's now an allround whos good to shoe box, hack alone and in company. Competed xc/sj/ODE.
He quite a wizzy little thing, but can take the p*ss if he thinks he can get away with it. He needs some one who will continue his education and take him out and about competing as he's happyest when he's in work as gets board easily.
So i know that this will mean thats he's not worth a fortune as he's not a novice ride etc
I hate the thought of selling horses but really want him to go the right home. I know it sounds like a cliche but home really is more important than the price but how to i find some who isnt a complete numpty and thinks that just because he's cheap theyll be able to ride him?
I know this sounds like i'm rambling but how do i find the right rider for a quirky horse?

I think if you make sure you are completely honest with people, I don't see why you wouldn't find the right home. Maybe try him on project horses? Although tbh, he doesn't sound like much of a project. All the horses I've owned have been 'quirky' so I wouldn't see that as a problem!

he sounds great, I'd have him

sounds like what a lot of people are looking for, a good allrounder with a cheeky character! stick him on horsequest

Well what worked for me is selling livery. It does cost but mine was only there for a month. It was a decentplace. They looked after him very well and gave him a good trial as well with schooling, jumping and hacking.I chose not to go when the pro spective buyers came, but I could have gone.I learned all about them and if I had felt the home was not suitable I could have vetoed the sale.Mine was a nice lad but very spooky. They found him a perfect long term home with lovely people.Lost money I am afraid but what the hell.Places like that seem to find plenty of good buyers.Good luck in the future.

Sorry to read you're having to sell. However, I don't think you'll have a problem at all. As long as people are aware of his 'quirks' then that's all that matters. My chap is quirky (I'm being generous) but I was totally aware of it when I viewed so knew what I was letting myself in for. I wouldn't change him for the world. I think there will be plenty of people who will be interested so don't feel you have to price mega low to sell.

If your honest, he'll sell very easily and he will go on to make someone else very proud, only thing if you price him too low you'll get a load of people looking at him that are perhaps not suited to him (as in think they can take him on just because he's cheaper) and then the people that would probably look for a horse like this, may over look him because he's cheap.

So don't be tempted to think that his quirks should lower his price too much thats all.

He sounds great! Perfect for a capable teenager or small adult, I wouldn't worry, don't they say that it's the quirky ones that are the most talented (or did I make that up to make myself feel better?!)

I love horses with lots of personality :-)

I think quite a few people would consider quirks, particularly if it doesn't involve anything major. Does his quirks involve rearing/bolting/spinning/napping/bucking...?

Agree that it is best to be completely straight forward, both about the good and the bad points. If he has no health issues/injuries, that is great. If he is good in traffic it may be worth mentioning that too. What sort of breeding does he have?

Its a shame you have to sell! But he is the height and age I am looking for so maybe you could sell him to me!!!
I don't mind quirky especially if he is reasonably priced! Need something a bit whizzy for hunting and for showjumping! do you have any pics?
