So i'm posting it again!! I think i will be ok, but what do you think? He was off for a month...

I've just found out that there is another fun-day competiton in a months time and I would really like to take Hemir.

Do you think it's rushing things? I only started walking him yesterday. But he trotted so he's feeling better! I won't do too much maybe the clear round, and 2ft classes (and a dressage test??).

thankyou

A month is four weeks - which I think is far too soon. You won't even be trotting by then.

What was the injury??

ok thanks

the first 2 weeks we're because we couldn't get hold of the vet - he went on holiday (specialises in horses) and the other vets around i don't (i know it's not ideal...but we did our best to get him out as quickly as possible) then the vet came, did some osteopathy (his back was a little out of alignment and his jaw was a bit out aswell) and said to give him a few days off then start walking him, but we went ot the farrier and he said is sciatic nerve was trapped - plus we took his shoes off and he was a little foot sore for a few days. phoned the vet on monday, and he said we could start walking him as he knew it wasn't 100% but not to worry. he said no to lung him, until this weekend, just walk him out calmely, then try a trot and see how it goes.

I think it would be ok too take him too the show as long as he feels himself when you ride him.
If he doesnt feel himself then maybe not but its yourdecision. x

as long as you manage to ride him 6 or 7 days a week from now till then, gradually building up work, and he stays sound and happy, then i'd take him, but maybe not do that much. for a dressage test you need at least 15-20 mins warm up, plus the test, plus jumping warm up, plus clear round (at least once!), plus 2 foot classes... sounds like quite a bit of work to me. i'd do the dressage test and one or two jumping rounds, absolutely maximum, i guess. if he starts feeling tired, though, stop - tired horses injure themselves easily. good luck.

I think its too soon, to be jumping.

Also have you made sure saddle, and you, sit totally straight now? Maybe get a re-flock if it's not totally lined up.

Perhaps you should do more straight movements, transitions only walk/trot after a week or two and no smaller than 20m turns, building up over about 6 weeks. Canter after about four weeks. Until you do some gymnastic low jumps, cavaletti size. All to build his back and abdominal muscle, straight and supportive.
