Just thought of that combination for my boy but wondering if it would be incorrect? Only for showjumping dont worry not planning on going in the show ring like that :)

If you want to be 'BHS' about it then technically it is incorrect as the pelham and grackle have opposing actions and aren't very friendly when used together.

However I jump my horse in a happy mouth pelham and a flash, because he goes calmly and beautifully in it. Its the only thing I have found that he seams relaxed and comfortable in his mouth in.

So I say if it works and the horse is happy then go for it, I'd rather have a soft contact in something that works and isn't technically correct than having a fight in something else..

my horse and a friends horse is ridden in a pelham with a grackle- taz hates flashes with a passion and its the only bit i have found he doesnt throw his head around and is comfortable in :)

Ditt.o-technically incorrect but I use a vulcanite pelham & grackle whenever i need a bit more control-he s quite happy and i don t need to be "strong" with him

I jumped my pony (albeit years ago!) in a pelham and a grackle with no probs at all. He was a loon when he arrived with us and remained fizzy, but he'd been ridden in a Liverpool driving bit before we had him, which we thought might be a little unnecessary... He was a star on his day, and the pelham just added extra brakes for the really hairy moments!

I use a pelham with a flash noseband on advice of my instructor, she got into a habit of getting her tongue over the bit and this has stopped it, she's very settled in her mouth now and rides beautifully in it.

I know its not 'correct' but all horses are different, give it a go and see if it suits. (i will add i have been criticised by others for the combination but when explained the reasoning they changed their tune).
