...to buy the horse, move it to a new yard, and then potentially move it again not long after??
I have been 'in between ' horses since March now, and the horse I have been riding since summer as a sort-of loan from a friend has been lame the past five weeks..so I'm currently hacking out a very green ex racer once a week, just to keep us both from going mad!- not ideal, but still riding, which i am very grateful for!- but i really don't want to be doing this all winter.
I am desperate for my own horse again, and am aware that with the holidays coming up this would be the best time to get a new horse, so i would have time to get to know it etc, without it being dark all the time.
I am basically waiting for a spot at the local livery yard to open up. We decided it was stupid to be looking for horses until we knew there was a space at yard to put it. It could be a few weeks until there's a space, or it could be months.
There is however a space at a yard about twenty minutes away, which has lovely facilities etc..and a space..my friend (who i respect very much, and who has advised me very well in the past) said i should just get a horse (obviously if i find the right one!), move it to the further away yard for the time being, but then move it once a space comes up in the local yard. There's not really a realistic option o keeping it at the further away yard permanently- I need to be able to get there by myself in general, which is near impossible as it's kind of remote, though Mum said she wouldn't mind driving me for a bit.
Am i right in thinking it's unfair to move a horse twice, possible in a short period of time? Surely it would already be unsettled enough having to leave an old home and owner? Or am i being soft? I know it depends on individuals though, and some are better at moves than others...but i wouldn't know until i'd done it, if that makes sense. Should I just bide my time, be less impatient and wait for a space at the local, even if it is months?
Sorry, long
