Would it be unreasonable of me to post a letter through the letterbox of a house just outside of the village where my shared pony is kept, asking if I could borrow their school once a week for a lesson? Obviously I'd be willing to pay to borrow it, and I would speak to them in person but no one ever seems to be in when I go by. The only reason I know people live there is the curtains are often open/closed at different times and sometimes their gates are open. They have 2 exmoor ponies that move from paddock to paddock too.

Just want some feedback as to whether you think its reasonable of me to ask?

I don't think it is unreasonable for you to ask and a note through the door seems to be a very sensible idea. On the other hand though it would also not be unreasonable for them to decline, so don't get your hopes up too much. There are all sorts of aspects to consider, not least insurance and liability should you have an accident while using it. Good luck. :)

Yes I did think of this :) Its no great shakes if they say no, I can hack to the next village to borrow one, but as this one is closer and floodlit, it would be nice if I could use it :)
