Would mushrooms cause this?

Hi

Had a nasty shock this morning my pony's eyes were so puffy they were almost shut together then I noticed hives all over her.

The vets were excellent and came out this morning, she has been given a steroid injection and some tablets for Tomorrow and Thursday.

I have done nothing different with her routine, no new food, no new shavings no rugs washed in detergent etc.

I have had a sudden influx of mushrooms and though there were none in her paddock (might be because she ate them!) I can only think that this might be the only reason she looks as bad as this .......

She is puffy all over her stomach is massive too.

I am just on my way there again to check on her in 10 mins or so. Any ideas on what could have caused this?

I had one once whose face was so swollen that his muzzle looked like it was covered in vaseline. Not mushrooms, but suspected St. John's Wort which has a yellow flower. We still don't know what it was and he was fine after a few days of steroids. Hasn't had it again either and has always been in the same field - the others he was out with didn't get it. Sometimes these things are a bit of a mystery and you will never get to the bottom of it.
Another one of ours is allergic to his own sweat (which makes life difficult as you can imagine)
and he comes out in hives quite regularly, but no facial swelling.
Not very helpful!

I think you might be on to something! There is something growing in the paddock that resembles Ragwort but it isn't ragwort! It's the first time I have ever seen it and I have been digging it out every day.

Off to find my book on dangerous plants now!

Thanks very much!!
